Talk: Very high frequency

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

Will a two way radio with vhf communicate with a two way radio with uhf frequency, on the job we use cheaper two way radio's that are I believe uhf frequency, I want to buy a higher powered radio and want to know if I can get away with using a vhf radio for an all around radio for at work and maybe even for marine band too but i don't know much about this. can someone please help?

In short: no. To communicate, two radio sets have to transmit and receive on exactly the same frequency. UHF and VHF are quite distinct. Even two VHF radios wouldn't work together unless they are on the same frequency (e.g. they'd both have to be set to, for exanple, 172.225 MHz. If one was on 172.225 and the other on 172.250 they would not work). Graham 23:18, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)
