Derek, "sabermetrically" refers to "sabermetrics", which is a term referring to the use of advanced baseball statistics to analyze baseball. It was coined from the acryonym SABR, for the Society for American Baseball Research. A quick google search for sites like http://www-math.bgsu.edu/~albert/papers/saber.html should give you a good idea of what is being referred to, basically that the Ricciardi is trying to use a more scientific approach to his job.
