Talk: Seattle

From open-encyclopedia.com - the free encyclopedia.

As a person living in the Seattle area and who works downtown, I can see one very good reason for having Seattle, Washington. Seattle was a person, so plain Vanilla Seattle should probably belong to him! HK

Ah! An ambiguity issue. Very well -- since there is some ambiguity as to what Seattle is then the city should be naturally disambiguated by being titled Seattle, Washington, the chief known by that name should be at Chief Seattle and Seattle should then become a disambiguation page (since Seattle is far and away more widely known as the city and not the person -- at least on the national and international scale -- may be different in Seattle itself). However, this will require the changing of a bunch of current links (I’ll get to this this weekend). Thanks for catching that -- I originally thought that Chief Seattle would be the natural name for Seattle the person, but I now do recall hearing him referred to simply as Seattle. Oh and being a resident of the city in question is really obscures ones perception of what his/her town is known as nationally or internationally. Cheers! --maveric149

Its just too much work to change all the links to Seattle -- So, for now at least, I will make Seattle into a redirect to Seattle, Washington and have an edit link at the bottom of that page named Chief Seattle. This is probably an issue that is analogous to having the city of Paris France at simply Paris. But having a redirect to Seattle, Washington won't hurt matters. --maveric149
